Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer (CT)
Recognising your existing skills and experience
At RiteSkill, we understand that many people entering the funeral industry already bring valuable experience, knowledge, and previous study. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer are pathways that allow this to be acknowledged, so you are not repeating learning you have already completed.
We support both options and encourage you to get in touch to discuss what may be suitable for your situation.
What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that recognises the skills and knowledge you have gained through:
-
previous work experience
-
industry involvement
-
informal learning
-
life experience
Through RPL, you can demonstrate your competency against the requirements of a unit without needing to complete all standard training and assessment tasks.
RPL is evidence-based. This means you will need to provide documentation or examples that show your experience and capability. This may include:
-
workplace documents or records
-
photos or videos of your work
-
references or third-party reports
-
written responses or case studies
RPL is not a shortcut, it is a different pathway to demonstrate that you already meet the required standard.
What is Credit Transfer (CT)
Credit Transfer applies when you have already completed a unit of competency that is the same as, or equivalent to, a unit within your current qualification.
If you have successfully completed a recognised unit through another Registered Training Organisation, you may not need to complete that unit again.
To apply for Credit Transfer, you will generally need to provide:
-
a copy of your certificate or statement of attainment
-
details of the units you have completed
Where the unit codes and outcomes match, credit can be granted.

Which option is right for you?
-
RPL is suitable if you have relevant experience but do not hold a formal qualification
-
Credit Transfer is suitable if you have already completed recognised training
In some cases, a combination of both may be appropriate.

We take a practical and supportive approach to both RPL and Credit Transfer. Our focus is on recognising genuine skills and experience, while ensuring that all outcomes meet the required industry and training standards.
We will work with you to:
