Month 1-3

Month 4 - 9

Month 10 - 12

Month 13 - 18

You’ll build firm foundations. We cover the history and purpose of funeral service in Australia, roles and ethics, consent and legal basics. You’ll learn how to communicate with care, keep records properly and respond to grief with confidence. Introductory arranging skills begin here, supported by short case scenarios and trainer check-ins.

Now you move into practice. You’ll work through a full arranging workflow, from first call to service day, including paperwork, venues, suppliers, run sheets and risk planning. WHS is front and centre across office, vehicle, mortuary and ceremony settings, with infection control, manual handling and incident response. You’ll complete a realistic arrangement file and role-play key conversations.

Your focus shifts to workplace evidence and hands-on skill. With supervised placement, you’ll assist with transfers, viewings and service coordination, and practise dignified presentation in the mortuary. You’ll learn conducting skills at chapel, graveside and crematorium, .

You consolidate and lead. Finish your placement hours and finalise workplace evidence, then step into coordinating teams on service days. You will allocate roles, run short briefings, supervise staff or volunteers during transfers, viewings and ceremonies, and monitor WHS controls in real time. Mortuary presentation and conducting skills are refined with targeted trainer feedback. You complete a reflective journal and leadership plan, assemble your portfolio, and sit the capstone practical assessment, which covers a full arrangement build, a conducted service and safe mortuary tasks.
